Erykah Badu Says What Iggy Azalea Is Doing Is Not Rap At ‘Soul Train Music Awards’
Erykah Badu hosted last night’s ‘Soul Train Music Awards.’ She spoke on how this year’s award ceremony wouldn’t focus on Hip-Hop. She then answers a phone call, which is supposed to be Iggy Azalea. Erykah says, “Yeah, hey…Oh, no…you can come ’cause what you doin’ is definitely not rap.”
There was no reason she needed to make a joke about Iggy Azalea. If you notice, you really haven’t heard anything about her in the media recently. I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with Iggy. I know why others had a problem with her, and it’s because she was a white woman in rap. The black community weren’t too accepting to that. It’s one thing to be a woman in the rap industry, but to also be white.
Like I said, I didn’t feel there was any reason she needed to be brought up. When you think of it, this could be said for other artists in the rap industry. I feel Iggy was used as example, because of the criticism she received last year from the black community.
I hope no one thought Erykah was really talking to Iggy. I just say this because of the reaction of the audience.
