New Music: Timbaland – Shakin ft. Aaliyah, Strado
I was excited to hear unreleased music from Aaliyah. Timbaland had a close relationship with Aaliyah, which is why I counted on him to do her justice. I was saying before when he first made the announcement, how I thought the music should stay in its original condition. I think that’s a turn-off for fans of Aaliyah. Timbaland shouldn’t be trying to target a younger audience with the unreleased music. He should just be doing this as a gift to Aaliyah’s fans. Also, by targeting a younger audience, I mean changing up something from the song, such as the production so that it has a current sound.
At the time Timbaland made the announcement on Aaliyah, I was exploring her music. I had only known her for a few of her hits and because my mom said that when I was a baby they’d have to play ‘Rock The Boat’ repeatedly so I could stop crying.
Sometimes it’s best that the song remains unreleased, even if fans are curious to hear it. Timbaland received a lot of negative feedback for the song. I didn’t like the song myself. He made changes to the song (from the original) such as the production. Also, Timbaland’s overuse of autotune may come across as annoying or disturbing.
Listen to the song below and share your thoughts:
This is Timbaland’s mixtape, though if it were to be an Aaliyah album, I think Timbaland should include the revised and original version. (Similar to Michael Jackson’s ‘Xscape.’) I think with some unreleased songs, it’s obvious why they were unreleased. Timbaland wanted to please Aaliyah fans with what they’ve been asking for, which is unreleased music. I just would like to hear the song in its original condition. I know it’s included on his mixtape, though I thought when he said he would release unreleased music from Aaliyah, it would be for an upcoming project of hers, not for his mixtape.
Since I’ve listened to the song, I’ve been searching for the original online. I did find a snippet of the original and from what I heard, I could see that being a song she would’ve released back then. I don’t think Timbaland did the song much justice. I’ve noticed some people mention Drake, as he revised an unreleased song of hers as well, saying how he did a better job with the song, ‘Enough Said.’ I’d have to agree. I think Chris even did a well job with ‘Don’t Think They Know,’ which was one of my favorite songs in 2013.
