Even following SZA’s breakout success, TDE’s First Lady hasn’t escaped the thought of early retirement. Before the unleash of her successful debut album, ‘Ctrl,’ SZA had toyed with retiring in response to album delay frustrations. “I actually quit,” Solana tweeted in 2016 at aim to TDE founder, Anthony Tiffith.
SZA is planning her follow-up album, which she revealed in a newly-released Flaunt cover story will be her last. “I’m still miserable,” she explained. “My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that… because it’s going to be my last album.”
She’s in the album’s early stages. “I’ve been talking shit to myself on different topics every day for the last week,” she explained, “which is typically how I start—coming up with little catchphrases in the car on the way home, and I’ll be like, ‘Cute.’ Then I’ll be like, ‘I think I’m ready to write and start recording.'”
