Ray J still has beef with Kanye West. Despite West being in a relationship with Kim Kardashian, Ray J still showed pride in the fact that he slept with her before the controversial rapper did in his infamous single, “I Hit It First.”
Three years following the viral single and the two still have an ongoing feud. Most recently, Kanye West dissed Ray J in his song, “Highlights” and included his likeness in the accompanying visuals to single, “Famous.”
Ray J spoke to Overheard on Oct. 23, and revealed he's readying a diss track titled, “Famous,” which will be featured on his visual album, “Raydemption.” In the upcoming song, the singer will address West's video of the same name. Chris Brown, whose likeness was also featured in the visual will be assisting on Ray J's new single.
Not sure why Brown is getting involved, as he laughed off his appearance in the music video. Guess time will only tell what the duo are up to.
If you weren't aware, this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hip-Hop rivalries, Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim's debuts.
Last week, Nicki Minaj headlined the Tidal X: 1015 charity concert alongside her influence, Lauryn Hill. Surprisingly, it was Minaj's first time meeting her. She expressed her excitement through Instagram, including a clip from backstage where she bowed down to L-Boogie.
Foxy Brown isn't one to bite her tongue, which in result has created feuds with Eve, Left Eye, Queen Latifah, etc. The Ill Na Na emcee responded to Minaj's clip while also subtly dissing Lil' Kim and Remy Ma. “I laugh when they say she never gives it up the greats cause she’s humbly bowed to both L Boogie (my fave) and Fox boogie publicly,” wrote Brown in the caption. “Maybe y’all mad b**ches just aren’t who she considers ‘The Bar.'”
As for Remy Ma, the “Get Me Home” rapper rejected Nicki Minaj's collaboration idea, which included she and Remy Ma. “Nic Clearly Knows I'd Never Thro My "WO" On No Collabo Wit Less Than Greatness Tho,” Brown says.
Just a quick reminder that the year is 2016, not 1996. Brown may not realize it, but the collabo would've helped reintroduce her. Guess she'd rather live in denial.
Mariah Carey appears to be in an early festive mood. While Halloween isn't until next week, the diva held a bash at her Los Angeles home.
Carey's billionaire fiancée wasn't in sight, however ex-husband Nick Cannon, Tamar Braxton, Floyd Mayweather and more were in attendance.
Despite their separation, Cannon still maintains a healthy relationship with Carey as the two co-parent. The comedian joined their twins at the party dressing as Luigi, while the “Infamous” singer opted to wear a seductive latex devil's costume. See pictures from the bash below:
Kanye West has shown that he's defensive over Beyoncé, and apparently he's defensive over Frank Ocean as well. This doesn't come as a surprise, as West went on a Twitter rant earlier this year urging radio stations to support Frank Ocean.
As for the rapper's recent rant which took place at his show in Oakland, he threatened the Grammys committee by boycotting if Frank Ocean isn't nominated. This comes after reports that Ocean is ineligible for the 2017 Grammys as “Blonde” nor “Endless” were submitted for consideration.
Despite that, West believes the Grammys have an opportunity to change their rules to have Ocean involved in the show, mentioning that they’ve done this action for Gaga. “The album I listened to the most this year is Frank Ocean’s album,” said West. “I’ll tell you this right now: If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showin’ up to the Grammys.”
Clearly, Kanye is using his star power to his advantage. Personally, it wouldn’t make a difference if he attended or not. Also, I wasn’t fond of Blonde. Perhaps it was because I compared it to his debut, which was excellent. Blonde was a cohesive and mellow album, but not deserving of a Grammy in my opinion.
SNL has offered Solange ‘a seat at their table.’ Despite being in the music biz for over a decade, Knowles is finally being individualized. Due to her association with Beyoncé, she was often overshadowed. However, Solange is becoming more recognized musically as she garnered her first #1 with the long-awaited “A Seat At The Table.”
Announced by SNL through Twitter, the songbird will be performing on November 5th whereas Benedict Cumberbatch will be handling the hosting duties.
Hopefully, she performs “Cranes In The Sky” and “Don’t You Wait.” What are your two picks from “A Seat At The Table?”
Mariah Carey has began to embrace her musical title as the “Queen Of Christmas.” If the diva were ever considering retiring, she could surely rely on royalties from her modern Christmas hit, "All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Aside from Carey returning to the Beacon Theater for her Christmas concert series, she also filmed a Christmas-themed edition of James Corden's viral segment, “Carpool Karaoke.”
She was the first to appear on the segment. Since then, popular acts including Adele, Jennifer Lopez and even FLOTUS have sat in the passenger seat.
Hopefully, in the second go-round Carey has a better idea of the segment as she was opted not to sing in her first appearance.
Catch her debut visit on the segment below and more pictures from the taping.
No word yet on when the Christmas edition will be premiering.
Nicki Minaj's Barbz will have to regain trust in the rapper after tweeting a faux album announcement.
Last Monday, Minaj spoke to the New York-oriented radio stations, Hot 97 and Power 105.1. While the station rivalries focused on similar topics, Minaj spilled more details to Hot 97 on her forthcoming project (Not “Pick My Fruit Out” by the way).
She reveals that she wanted to bring more female unity to her latest effort, “Pinkprint” with a collaboration featuring Foxy Brown and Remy Ma. However, Minaj still has hope in the collab saying, “I love them both so I think that’s only a matter of time before she and I do something.”
As for the highly anticipated follow-up to Pinkprint: “The album is so freaking epic,” she explained, “but it’s a journey. Before my first album came out, I was on everybody’s song. I had my own campaign without realizing it. Right now, I have to complete a few things for other people…What that does, throughout my career, it makes me get back to my fun side and it makes me push my pen.”

Flavor's Two Cents: However, there’s a difference between now and then. When Minaj debuted, there was mystery behind her. She had just stepped out and was already collaborating with acts such as Mariah Carey, Trey Songz, and Usher. While Minaj’s image was obviously influenced by Lil’ Kim, to the new generation it was perceived as ‘outlandish’ and ‘different,’ which garnered more interest behind her. Now that she’s become a household name, the frequent collaborations could instead overexpose her.
